What is the difference between a patent and a utility model?
A patent protects a technical invention that is new, involves an inventive step and is industrially applicable. A utility model concerns a technical solution relating to the shape or construction of an object — the requirements are less demanding and protection is shorter. For some components a utility model is faster and cheaper.
We work with an aerospace group. Who owns the solutions we develop?
That depends on the contract, and its terms are often unfavourable to the supplier. It is worth reviewing the IP clauses before signing, because a solution developed while performing an order may pass entirely to the customer. We review such contracts and propose provisions that protect the supplier’s technical achievements.
Does a patent attorney need an office in Subcarpathia?
No. Proceedings are conducted electronically and technical documentation is exchanged through an encrypted channel. For technical solutions, experience in handling such matters and the ability to talk to the client’s engineers matter far more than location.
